Fibertech Networks Deploys Turin’s Equipment to Integrate Ethernet Switching and Expand Optical Network Capacity

Network Upgrade Strengthens the Carrier’s Position as A Leading Metropolitan Transport Provider in the Northeast

Petaluma, CA, July 25, 2006 -

Turin Networks, a global provider of multiservice optical transport solutions for carrier, wireless and private networks, announced today that Fibertech Networks, a metropolitan transport provider operating fiber optic networks in 20 mid-size U.S. cities throughout the Northeast, has deployed Turin Networks’ Traverse® platform to integrate Ethernet switching capabilities into their network and expand bandwidth capacity.

“The Traverse solution is an excellent fit for our applications and network migration,” said Jim Baase, Vice President of Engineering at Fibertech Networks. “In addition to looking for the best way to increase the capacity of our far-reaching fiber optic network, we needed an optimal way to aggregate and manage the new packet-based access services that we are delivering to our business customers. The Traverse provides a single platform that unifies Carrier Ethernet switching with next-generation transport functionality, enabling us to transition to a high-performance, Ethernet-optimized optical core.”

Fibertech has deployed Traverse nodes throughout its Connecticut and upstate New York markets, strengthening their position as a leading metropolitan transport provider in the Northeastern region. The increased capacity and flexibility provided by the Traverse platform enable Fibertech to deliver new value-added services to their customers, which include telecommunications carriers, major healthcare organizations, financial, education and government institutions, among a wide variety of metropolitan and regional bandwidth users.

“Fibertech recognized the value of building an integrated transport network that will allow them to offer their customers enhanced services, quickly and cost-effectively,” stated Roland Feldman, Vice President of North American Sales for Turin Networks. “Like many of our other customers, this ensures them a fast return on their investment. We’re happy to be a small part of their success, and look forward to supporting them going forward.”
